A BILL

To provide an extension of Federal-aid highway, highway safety, motor carrier safety, transit, and other programs funded out of the Highway Trust Fund pending enactment of a multiyear law reauthorizing such programs.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE; RECONCILIATION OF FUNDS; SPECIAL RULE FOR EXECUTION OF AMENDMENTS IN MAP-21; TABLE OF CONTENTS.

(a) Short Title.--This Act may be cited as the ``Temporary Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2012''. (b) Reconciliation of Funds.--The Secretary of Transportation shall reduce the amount apportioned or allocated for a program, project, or activity under this Act in fiscal year 2012 by amounts apportioned or allocated for the program, project, or activity pursuant to the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2012 (Public Law 112-102) for the period beginning on October 1, 2011, and ending on June 30, 2012. (c) Special Rule for Execution of Amendments in MAP-21.--On the date of enactment of the MAP-21-- (1) this Act and the amendments made by this Act shall cease to be effective; (2) the text of the laws amended by this Act shall revert back so as to read as the text read on the day before the date of enactment of this Act; and (3) the amendments made by the MAP-21 shall be executed as if this Act had not been enacted.
