Response to the Research Works Act (HR 3699)

The Research Works Act, which would prohibit Federal agencies from disseminating publicly-funded research without publisher consent, was withdrawn by its sponsors on Feb. 27, 2012. As the bill sponsors explained:

"We want Americans concerned about access to research and other participants in this debate to know we will not be taking legislative action on HR 3699, the Research Works Act."

POPVOX analyzed the comments left by our users opposing the bill to identify the key arguments among self-identified researchers, students, and others. Ken Tai, on POPVOX's marketing team, created this infographic outlining these key arguments.

Please keep in mind that highlighting a bill doesn't imply a POPVOX endorsement in any way. Rather, we're simply trying to offer one more way to stay informed of an overwhelmingly complex legislative system.
