Issue Spotlight: Parental Rights
A few POPVOX users asked that we spotlight bills related to parental rights. We also have included a proposed Constitutional Amendment and a resolution related to the United Nations. (If you have a suggestion for an issue spotlight, please send me an email at rachna@popvox.com.)
Issue Spotlight: Parental Rights
- SRes 99 Expressing the sense of the Senate that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child undermines principles of law in the US.
- SJRes 42 A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relative to parental rights (and HJRes 110).
- HR 2769 The Parental Consent Act prohibits the use of Federal funds for any universal or mandatory mental health screening program (and S 1800).
- HR 2400 The Religious and Parental Rights Defense Act prevent States from prohibiting male circumcision.
- S 1005 The Parental Notification and Intervention Act provides for parental notification and intervention in the case of a minor seeking an abortion.
- HR 635 The Parental Title Protection Act requires that all Federal agencies, contractors, and government-sponsored enterprises use the words “mother” and “father” when describing parents in all official documents and forms.
- HR 3873 The Enhancing the Quality of Parental Legal Representation Act provide funds to State courts for the provision of legal representation to parents and legal guardians with respect to child welfare cases.
